Theme 2023: For every child, all their rights
World Children’s Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated annually on November 20 to promote respect and rights for children.
November 20 marks the day the Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child [A/RES/1386(XIV)], in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, signed in 1989.
Since 1990, World Children’s Day also marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration and Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, civil society leaders or activists, religious or community leaders, business leaders and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important role and make this World Children’s Day a special event in their society, for their community or for their country.
World Children’s Day offers each and every one of us a unique opportunity to raise public awareness of children’s rights, to promote and highlight them, but also to transform this date into concrete actions for children everywhere.
